A pound was a stone enclosure used in rural communities to hold stray livestock until claimed by their owners. Most date from the 17th to 19th centuries. Llangewydd’s pound is one of the few surviving examples in this part of Wales.

The Old Pound at Llangewydd is Grade II listed by Cadw, recognising its historical and architectural interest as a surviving example of rural community infrastructure.

The Council is committed to maintaining the structure in line with its listed status. Works are undertaken with appropriate consents and following heritage best practice.

The Old Pound forms part of the Laleston Stones Trail. It’s viewable from the public footpath at Llangewydd.
