Laleston Village Well restoration

Restoration of the Laleston Village Well — believed to be one of the oldest recorded wells in Wales. The Council is leading restoration work in partnership with heritage advisors, with works scheduled to begin in 2026.

The Laleston Village Well — a stone-built historic feature

The Laleston Village Well is among the oldest recorded wells in Wales, with documented use dating back centuries. It served the village as the primary source of fresh water before piped water arrived. The well is recognised as a site of significant local heritage interest.

Restoration work is scheduled to begin in 2026. The project will preserve the structure, restore the well head, and improve interpretation for visitors. Funding sources include the Council’s heritage budget and grant applications to bodies including Cadw and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Stonework conservation · Wellhead restoration · Interpretation panels · Improved public access · Inclusion in the Stones Trail

Project updates will be posted on the News & Notices page and through the Biodiversity & Allotment Committee meeting documents.
