“Another hugely successful Broadlands Fun Day took place last Saturday at Maes Yr Haul Primary School.
Starting with a quiet hour for the third year in a row, the Broadlands fun day is now proudly the most inclusive event in Bridgend. Our fun day has been gratefully received by parents with children with additional needs to allow them to orientate and enjoy the attractions without the crowds.
My thanks to Laleston Community Council for their ongoing support, funding a third of the cost of the day to keep the gate cost to £4 per person, which is incredibly important especially with the ongoing pressure to household finances. The outstanding local businesses led by our main sponsor Payton Jewell Caines paid for another third of the cost of the event. Without their generosity and support our vision of an affordable family day out wouldn’t be possible – thank you to every single business who supported us this year.
The main event opening was led by Cwmbran Pipes & Drums, and officially opened by Cllr Clair Webster of Laleston Community Council, Cllr Heather Griffiths Mayor of Bridgend County and Richard Lewis, High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan. The main arena was hosted by Zack Franks and packed with local performers from the Dance Centre Academy in Bryntirion and Scorpion Martial Arts along with Dinomania, Black Mountains Falconry, A&S Animal Encounters and Madness Events.
Our science tent, the vision of Broadlands resident Dr Geertje Van Keulen, was outstanding as ever featuring a full range of STEM subjects with podium presentations. Giving a fun educational experience.
Entertainment didn’t stop there! Our bar area was entertained by the incredible My Kinda Choir, Bridgend Ukes, Tusker Duo and Black Velvet
This year we added a Be Calm Relax and Visions Sensory tent to provide an area of calmness and relaxation in the event our thanks to Helen Mayer and Lisa-Marie Ash for giving up their time to provide this superb addition.
Over 3,700 came this year to enjoy the fantastic community on Broadlands, thank you to everyone who supported, stewarded, volunteered their services and sponsored. Eleven years later we are going strong and can’t wait for next year. “
Ian Spiller, Event Organiser.
As we wrap up another memorable Broadlands Fun Day, it’s clear that community spirit and collaboration remain at the heart of our success. Our event highlights what can be achieved each year when local councils, businesses, and individuals come together with a shared vision. We’ve provided a day filled with joy and entertainment and solidified our commitment to inclusivity and accessibility for families of all needs.
Moving forward, we look forward to building on these achievements and continuing to create an even more engaging and diverse experience for everyone. Thank you again to all participants, sponsors, and volunteers. You are the reason our fun day thrives. Let’s keep this momentum and anticipate an even more significant event next year.
